treefort

St. John's Episcopal Church preschool program

Two treefort was completed for St. John's Episcopal Church preschool program in downtown Jackson during summer 2012. The focus of this feature was to engage the children in outdoor experiences that draw from the natural environment and the active imaginations of the children. The treefort stems from the main porch of the preschool and circulates around a mature Douglas Fir tree. The interior, to the scale of children, shelters the children from the main street and is used for both play and quiet reflection.

Materials for these projects were sourced as sustainably as possible. Decking was reclaimed, steel for the tree fort was collected from local quarries, rope is used for hand rails, and reclaimed log ends are used for climbing stairs.
